Yom Hashoah, the Day of Remembrance of the Holocaust, comes on the 26th day of Nisan on the Jewish calendar. This year, the 26th of Nisan corresponds to April 19th, the sixth anniversary of the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. On that day, 168 people were killed, 19 of them children at the day care center in the building, and many of the rest federal employees working in the building. Compared to the eleven million victims of the Nazi Holocaust, 168 might seem a tiny number. And yet the news of that day six years ago is seared in the memories of many of us. So as we pause to remember the six million, the eleven million, let us also take a moment to remember the 168 of Oklahoma City.

The teddy bear image is the result of a collective effort by the Webmasters of the Department of Defense and other Federal agencies to commemorate the anniversary. Clicking on the image will take you to the page the webmasters have set up, with more information and links.
